Way To Go PAAAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Public Access TV and Public Schools: the Evolution of Education

Locally, a great example of this Evolution is already underway. A place where children can learn to focus their artistic expression and receive the necessary academic instruction to provide the quintessential "back up plan". A place that is reminiscent of the memorable movie "FAME", a story about a New York City Performing Arts School where kids dream of making it to the stage or screen one day. This place is PAAAS; Plainfield Academy for the Arts and Advanced Studies .

Located in the former Emerson School building on the corner of Front Street and Rock Avenue, PAAAS, looks like any regular, newly constructed school building. Once inside, however, the difference becomes evident . Originally established to combat the desire to snatch students out of the district and place them into private or charter schools, Dr. Steve Gallon III and Mrs. Angela Bento have created an aggressive TV Production Arts program that has laid the foundation for the kind of partnership previously mentioned.

Under the instruction of former Tru TV Associate Producer and 2nd Assistant Director of the Maury Povich Show , Jody Lazarski, the students of PAAAS are receiving intensive hands-on and theoretical lessons in Television Production. Mrs. Lazarski challenges the students to use their creativity to produce thematic videos and projects designed to bring out their true interests in the business. Students rotate job titles to gain maximum exposure to the many facets of creating a quality television program. Students recently took a field trip to NBC studios in New York as well as a trip to the theatrical presentation " Three More Divas". PAAAS also boasts classes in dance, music, studio art, theatre and vocal music.

PCTVAB is in the preliminary stages of a partnership with PAAAS that will require students to submit material for airing on PCTV ch-96. We are certainly excited about the possibilities and are poised to champion a partnership between Plainfield Public Access TV Sytem and Painfield Public Schools. Stay tuned for updates!

I fully agree with you 100% on this post and you have my full backing on your run for the Board. However, this school was a great idea but put in the wrong place at the right time. The swing buildings were designed to house schools whose building were under construction as mentioned in Ms Paglia's blog and now we have a mess with trying to relocate the Cook school students. I am a parent of a PAAAS student and love what is being done there, but it was a mistake to change Jefferson into the Board office and also to move the Obama school there when there is plenty of space in the old high school building. MY solution would be to put the PAAAS school in the old Lincoln school.

No students should be in the "old Loincoln building" The Obama kids are suffereing there now. That situation is a mess. Those poor kids think that they are an after thought and forgotten about. The old Lincoln building is not suitible as a school anymore!

I propose that Plainfield's TV station be run entirely by a combined business and media program run by high school students. This would be a great real-world experience and would likely improve the fare we currently have.
